Not the weather for brass monkeys

Many congratulations to Jez Hampton, who captured the 2022 Yellowdot Christmas Cup Trophy.

With reigning champion Mark Sykes unable to go for ‘three-in-a-row’ due to injury, Jez’s 38 points was enough to see off a competitive field of 14 golfers. This put him three clear of second place Andy Sanders (35), with Jay Patel a point further back (34).

On a bright but desperately cold day, it was essential everyone wore thermals, multiple layers and woolly hats. The spare Yellowdot branded hats proved very popular to those individuals that had forgotten their own headwear. The course was in remarkably good condition, and only the first couple of greens replicated concrete before the gentle thawing began.

Both Ollie Anthony and Tim Leney collected a couple of Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive prizes, whereas the Team prize went to Ollie, Alex Polhill and Jay who managed to combine just well enough to win on countback. The Booby prize went to last years runner-up Alastair Pettigrew – from hero to zero in twelve months…

The highlight of the day was when Father Christmas found time in his busy schedule to drop by and hand out the prizes. Don’t let the expressions on the winners faces in these photos tell you any different.

Following a hearty festive lunch and mince pies, everyone enjoyed seeing Croatia beat Brazil on penalties before heading off into the night. Many thanks to all players for their efforts in testing conditions, and to Hampton Court Palace Golf Club for looking after us so handsomely.
