Sweet Young thing

For someone that allegedly threw his clubs away earlier in the year, Geoff Young has seemingly reignited an interest in the game, based on his impressive 40 points and victory in the 2023 Yellowdot Christmas Cup. It’s always good to get a new name on the trophy.

Usually tasked with the photographic duties, now it was Geoff’s turn to get in front of the camera and he can be seen below grasping the famous old trophy.

Now in it’s 25th year, the Yellowdot Christmas Cup was competed for by 15 golfers, all of whom were amazed by the glorious sunshine that welcomed us at Hampton Court Palace Golf Club. With multiple prizes on offer, everyone had plenty of opportunities to shine, however the glory wasn’t equally split as a handful of greedy players made sure they went home with the bulk of the prizes.

Runner-up behind Geoff was Liam Hale, with Tim Leney a point further back in third (who was delighted to edge out Richard Wheatley on countback). Richard did manage to collect a couple of nearest the pin prizes, as did Will Nicholson and Jay Patel. Tom Collisson collected the Champagne Moment prize for his very generous gesture towards Will, who was trying to hold back the tears after losing three expensive golf balls in remarkably quick succession.

For the Team Competition this year, each three-ball pairing was given a name, ranging from Aces (first to tee off and led by reigning champ Jez Hampton), through Eagles, Birdies, Bogeys and lastly the Blobs. The winners, and defying their title, were the Bogeys. However, living up to their name were the Blobs who appropriately enough finished last. This was all rather odd in that runner-up Liam and third placed Tim were in this team, they must have been badly let-down by the third (un-named) team member…

Thanks to all golfers for their enthusiastic participation, let’s do it all again next year.
